This year, my goal is to restructure my portrait business and build a viable business model around conceptual portrait. Not just fine art limited edition prints but also commissions. Personal client commissions. I firmly believe conceptual portraiture is the next big thing. This genre is going to completely change the face of today’s portrait industry. I am encouraging portrait photographers to offer this product to their existing portrait clients. It is a perfect product! I’ve never met anyone who wouldn’t love to have one, staring themselves or their little one. Developing a style around this genre is a perfect way to stand out in a flooded market.
Clients are immediately connected to your artistry and that connection creates demand and demand creates dollars…
When first considering this switch, I knew there was going to be one problem. How to get the price point down into a range that is not astronomical, due to the hours of production time. I believe I have found a way! I have been working hard the last week to get a site completely dedicated to this new business model. Over the next month, I will be adding themed backgrounds. These will be reusable, pre-edited backgrounds that can be sold over and over. Making this product quick and easy to replicate is the key. By doing pre-made, themed backgrounds, you can achieve a production time that allows you to do multiple conceptual portraits a week. Thus, raising your average sale. I want to share with you my website so you can see how I am structuring everything. I made this site through wix.com. Being a graphic designer, I have found it to be the best service for making a design truly your own.

I just want to say I’ve been reading your blog and following you for about a month now, and thank you for your openness. I’m just starting to wade into the pool of conceptual portraiture and fine art and your lessons and teaching have helped so much! I wish you the best of luck on this new endeavor (and maybe, just maybe, I won’t be too far behind (: )
